Welcome to Burge Family Wine Estates
Burge Family Wine Estates (BFWE) is a family owned wine company based in the Barossa Valley, producing exceptional Australian wines across a diverse range of brands.
Over six generations spanning 160 years, they’ve etched their name as an iconic wine dynasty. Today, a fresh chapter unfolds for the Burge legacy.
Fueled by fervent passion, the family is resolute in preserving their winemaking heritage. Their mission is to disseminate wisdom, amplify the reputation of Australian wine, and fortify the industry for the generations ahead.
Winemaking
The family oversees all the winemaking activities alongside Chief Winemaker & 2022 Barossa Winemaker of the Year, Matthew Pellew and his team of Imogen McNamara and David Horne.
The family owns and operates 2 wineries in Tanunda, that crush over 2,000 tonnes of their own fruit with a total capacity of 6,000 tonnes. The the family wineries are also home to temperature controlled, 6,000-barrel maturation cellar.
Production & Logistics
BFWE has access to state-of-the-art bottling, labelling, packaging, warehousing, and logistics facilities, through its relationship with its broader family services business Burge Barossa. This access allows the business to manage everything from ‘grape to glass’.
The BFWE team are backed by a team of experts. From viticulturalists and hand pickers, to winemakers and cellar hands, bottling line supervisors, brand and packaging experts and more. Together with the family’s broad range of facilities and equipment, BFWE are able to manage the A-Z of end to end wine production and supply.
Viticulture
All viticulture, including fruit sourcing, is managed collaboratively by Grant and Trent Burge. With their extensive knowledge of grape growing the father-son duo firmly believes that great wines are made in the vineyard.
Thanks to the family’s grape-growing heritage, BFWE has access to fruit from their family’s 300 hectares of vines, along with an extensive network of vineyard resources throughout some of Australia’s most iconic wine regions.
The family’s vineyards include some of the finest vineyard holdings in the Barossa & Adelaide Hills, accumulated over the last 160 years and strategically positioned to suit each variety’s specific micro-climate needs. This includes some of the oldest vineyards in the Barossa, first planted by the Burge family more than 100 years ago.
